How do I choose the right florist?

I have a few tips for this question…hopefully they are helpful!

Consider the style of your wedding, look for a florist that has a signature style that is what you are looking for. Best way to know this is by looking at their instagram accounts for current photos. All florists can adapt their natural style but I would suggest looking for one that aligns with your vision.
Location is important…I would suggest having a florist that is no more than 2 hours away from your venue. You don’t need a florist that is on the door step though!
Book in an introductory call to start the ball rolling. You need to book a florist that you trust and that you can see yourself getting on with over the coming months.
Share your vision with potential florists. It’s always a great idea to send over a few photos for inspiration so that a florist can use this as a starting point to make suggestions. At Foxy Buds we will add more inspiration in of course and if you are starting with a blank canvas that is no problem either. At Foxy Buds we are used to working with clients that require styling advice and those couples that have a very clear vision. 
If you are hiring a wedding planner still have that introductory call with a florist it hugely helps us florists gain a glimpse of your personalities that we can emulate in the floral designs. It’s nice to have a bit of character in the floral arrangements.

How to make the most of your flower budget at your wedding?

We want to make the most out of your wedding flowers budget, here are some ways that can help stretch that flower budget without compromising on quality.

My main tip is to prioritise focal areas that will be seen. If you are trying to keep to a budget whether that is £3000 or £10000 don’t try and flower up the whole venue. You will end up spreading flowers thinly without the wow factor. Go for impact such as staircase flowers, suspended marquee flowers, high impact table centres…
Reusing ceremony items is a must. You can potentially reuse aisle chair decoration around a venue. Ask your florist to hire out vases for this. Bouquets can be used on cake or card tables again using hired vases. Ceremony floral displays can be relocated to doorways or either end of a top table. If you opt for floral border arrangements to decorate the aisle you can reuse these on mantelpieces to create a gorgeous floral arrangement.
Being flexible can really help. Listen to your florist and let them advise you on how to choose seasonal flowers. Try not to be too fixed on flowers or arrangements, your florist can advise you on what will work well in terms of flower choice. We often use the high end luxury roses in the bridal bouquet and bridesmaids and then use similar more cost effective alternatives in other displays.

Wedding flower costs can vary depending on the style of arrangements, flower varieties and the level of service your florist provides. At Foxy Buds our average spend on wedding flowers is £3000 however we do work with lower and much higher budgets. Prices are bespoke which allows us to tailor quotes to you. A rough guide for some popular wedding arrangements is:

Bridal bouquet: allow £120
Bridesmaid bouquet: allow £70
Buttonholes: allow £8
Low table centre: allow £75
High table centre: allow £190
High impact large ceremony displays: allow £200 
Wedding arch: depending on measurements but allow £1000
Floral chandelier for marquee: allow £500

How far in advance do you book a florist for a wedding?

I would suggest getting in touch with potential wedding florists as soon as you have booked your wedding venue. Couples generally book in with us at least a year in advance.

We only take on  a certain number of weddings a year so that we can provide a high quality service with as many emails and phone calls as are needed.

We will always start with an introductory zoom call and then once we have enough of an idea of your vision go on to create an extensive proposal including colour palettes, mood boards, descriptions and of course itemised costs.
